Gavin felt his face turn red at her reasoning, but he tried to turn is mind away. She was a dog. A dog. He sighed and took a sip from his waterskin. With any luck, he could be in Vanar later today. Why did he have to come all the way out here anyway? Unless… he’s probably going to get sent to Fidel. Great. Eastern Rodylia was fine and everything, but at least he knew where he was in the West.
When the girl came back from the ravine, Gavin realized that he didn’t even know her name yet. “So, what’s your name, anyway? If we’re going to be traveling together, I want to be able to call you something other than ‘dog.’” This wasn’t going too well. Maybe he should try the test, but he’d rather be able to know that she wouldn’t kill him. Some Gatekeepers were bound to know about the passwords, after all.

"Wolfeh Cute!" she replied knowing it was best to tell him at least this little. She smiled again still on her guard, just in case something were to happen. She has been here long enough to know the dangers of talking even now. It was never safe even in such a seemingly peaceful place suck as this. Wolfeh walked around in a hurried sort of way, checking out anything that would help them survive if they had to spent another night. She managed to find a few dry twigs and the rocks she used.
"Well shouldn't we be on our way?"

Gavin stuffed his blanket into his rucksack and slung it over his shoulder. A few birds begin to twitter about in the trees overhead. It was a bit late in the morning for them to be appearing, but at least the odd silence of the forest was gone now. Wolfeh was running around the camp and seemed to be picking up what she had used to light the fire. Again Gavin wondered what a kid so young, shapshifter or no, was doing out in the middle of the woods alone.
“Yeah, let’s head out. By the way, you know anyone in Vanar? This guy I know, Aldric, has a friend who owns an inn. It’s not the cleanest place in the world, but it’s better than sleeping on the dirt.” Gavin glanced around. “So do you know which way the town is?”

"Yeah, lets get to it and find Aldric's friend together!" Wolfeh replied after taking another splash in the water. She jogged over to Gavin, all her things in place. Glancing about, she tried to make out any sort of humans or dangerous things that might hinder them. Realizing none, she started to walk quietly over to the edge of the tree and took a sniff of the air, nothing. With a smile she signaled Gavin to follow.
"I think it'll be safe."

Gavin frowned at her reaction. She apparently wasn’t a member of the Fellowship, but what would a kid like her being doing in that anyway? Wolfeh ran ahead a bit and looked as if she smelled the air. She gave a sign that it was safe so Gavin moved forward. Why he was taking her word for it, he had no idea.
“So, Wolfeh,” he said, “you still haven’t really explained what you’re doing out here.” Something sounded behind him, like the cracking of a twig. Gavin turned around and gripped his spear. It was probably nothing or a squirrel, but one can never be too careful. “Wolfeh,” he whispered. “Hang on.” He inched forward, bringing his spear out slowly in front of him. There was another snapping of branches, and then a club came down upon his head. Gavin yelped as the intruder came barreling past him and toward Wolfeh.

"Oh shi-" Wolfeh sputtered as she was slammed into the nearest tree trunk. The air in her lungs got knocked right out and apparently she lost her breathe. Her ribs burned seconds after the impact. At least one rib was broken she thought, as the guy tried to land another punch at her. Blood began to spurt out of her mouth as she was hit again, but straight on the stomach this time. She crumpled down onto the ground half conscious.
If only she noticed them sooner! If only she noticed things closer, then maybe her parents would be still alive. She blinked and glared into the man's eyes in pure hatred. Gatekeepers were below lowest in her list.
"You dirty gatekeepers, I've seen you kill those kids that weren't even in the Fellowship!" Wolfeh hissed out of clenched teeth.

Gavin would have tackled the man who went after Wolfeh right away or stabbed him or done something equally creative and harmful, but he was too preoccupied with a thug of his own and his already hurt head that had just gotten another rather large bump. He cursed himself for his clumsiness and tried to stand. Luckily, this time he was able to notice the club, or rather log, headed straight toward his face. Ducking, he swiped the shaft of his spear through the man’s legs. He faltered enough to create an opportunity for Gavin to move to the side, but he didn’t fall despite the nasty bruise he had just received.
Wolfeh shouted something over on her side of the fight which made his attention snap over to her for a precious second. Gatekeepers?! Gavin thought. What the hell were Gatekeepers doing attacking them. Was this girl on the Fellowship after all? Were they trying to stop him? And since when were the Gatekeepers this aggressive?
His pause for thought almost cost him his life, as the club was once again speeding toward him. Gavin swore, dodged, and brought the flat of his blade down on the thug/Gatekeeper’s head. He was still standing. How was this guy able to survive that? The next swing Gavin blocked with his spear, the sharpened end this time. The blade cut through the wood with a chunk and became stuck. The young man swore again as the thug shook the club back and forth, sending Gavin, who was still grasping the shaft, sprawling through the air. The thug pulled the spear out and now had two weapons. Gavin flinched and decided to try one last suicidal plan. “Wolfeh!?” he cried, “If you can hear me, get out of here!”

Wolfeh growled, acting like she didn't hear what Gavin said. She pulled out her dagger to strike the man near the thigh. As the sharp weapon pierced his skin, a mad raging howl erupted from the guy. Just as she thought, she might have a chance of winning, he managed to knock her quite hard on the head. Her mind began to turn dark and black as she realized she was losing conscious.
The man gently picked up Wolfeh and signaled for his partner to retreat. "We finished our mission, this Fellowship member should add us plenty of rep."

The horribly familiar rushing sensation flowed into Gavin, blood pounding in his ears as he half-tried to suppress the power. He hated doing this, with every fiber of his being, but what else was he supposed to do? Even through the roaring, he heard a soft thud as one of the thugs struck Wolfeh. She slumped to the ground, and the man picked her up and signaled something to his partner. Retreat.
“Oh no you don’t!” Gavin cried. A ring of warmth appeared around his right hand and slowly began to grow hotter as it was fed more power. Gavin formed a small sphere of the stuff in his hand and threw it at the thug who still held his spear. He needed that if he was going to help the girl. The thug actually noticed this time, so he turned around and started to charge with both of his weapons bared. Gavin threw another flame at him then formed the heat into a sort of cord, which he used to trip the thug. The spear shot to his hand and flared up into a burning orange flame, is if the blade had just been forged. As he prepared to run after the thug who had Wolfeh, he stabbed the spear into the back of the man’s neck. A sickening sizzling smell of burning flesh filled the air, but this Gavin didn’t mind. He enjoyed it. The man couldn’t be too far ahead, he thought. Gavin leapt after him, prepared for the kill.

The man ran, knowing his partner is dead, but what can he do? All he needed was to make it into town and transport this Fellowship into a holding cell until her execution. He wasn't bad, it was his duty right? Taking his mind off of things, he threw sharp tacks onto the forest ground. How could that man kill his partner so easily. He had power on his side, but apparently this guy had more. One strike will be the death of him!
Thinking quickly and with high hopes, he shouted from his back,"This girl is highly dangerous and part of this very world threatening group called the Fellowship." His orders was only to bring in a simple elf girl and to hide the secret of the truth. This time he had to tell the truth, he didn't want to die.
"This is all part of my orders, so please sir, do not follow any longer."

Gavin grinned, a maniacal, dangerous smile. The red was seeping in, more than Gavin had ever wanted to let though. Luckily, the man hadn’t been too far ahead of him, just a few bounds. It was a bit troubling to be forced to take to the trees when he heard the tacks drop, but it would end up being advantageous to his plan. Gavin paused in a tree branch for a moment when he heard the thug call out something. The Fellowship… So she was a member after all. Well, no matter. This was not a battle to involve her in, at least not yet.
“The Fellowship, eh?” Gavin called from the tree, cackling rather like a raven. “Your orders?” he leaned forward a bit more. If the man was smart, he would at least be able to notice him then. “You think the Fellowship is threatening the world? You think I care about those things?” He held the spear out in front of him. “You think she is the dangerous one? I’ll tell you one thing, fool, she means nothing to the Fellowship. Their leader, their advisor, their right-hand man, even me, especially me. We’re the big game. That girl? She is dirt to us. You want a fight? You want to get a real reward? You want to make your precious queen proud?” He swung the spear downwards and leaped out of the tree. “Then try your luck with me.”

Somehow the guy managed to dodge his pursuers attack and not letting go of the girl in his arms. This man was truly insane! He would go after the whole Gatekeeper army if they were positioned here at the moment. As his escape attempt dragged on he couldn't help struggle with the load. Luckily the girl was still knocked out and not squirming within his hold. He trudged around in the forest hopefully away from the man. The sweat clung to his dark matted hair and made it incredibly itchy on his back. That was the least of his worries, getting out of the forest alive seemed to be a miracle.

Gavin stood and watched the man depart for a moment, planning on how to make this as entertaining as possible. He rested his spear on his shoulder and cracked his knuckles. If he just threw his spear, he could kill the man from where he was standing, but that would put Wolfeh in too much danger. The safest way was to face to man head on and force him to drop the girl to fight; maybe a ring of flame would work. Gavin shook his head. What did the girl matter anyway? He hefted the spear up, preparing to plunge it into the fleeing thug, but something stopped him. Something wouldn’t allow him to risk the girl’s well-being, but why? She was useless. But… he couldn’t do it.
Growling to himself, Gavin leapt up into another tree and cut across the man’s path. “Drop the girl and I might let you live,” he cried. That was a lie, but the Gatekeeper didn’t know it.

He flinched, maybe this guy was honest! If not then he'll die anyways from him or the forest. Getting lost wasn't a very good idea at all. Setting the girl down for a second, he looked over at his pursuer. Why did he even care this girl, actually woman. She was older then twenty, at least thats what the report said.
"Don't come any closer, I'll leave the girl to you, but you have to let me live!" he said and took out a dagger of his own. Carefully he placed it under Wolfeh's neck, ready to slit it at any moment.
"Put your weapon down first so I can be sure, until I am she'll be dead in a sec!"

A thin smirk twitched at the edges of Gavin’s mouth. How stupid could this man get? Gavin stood up and cleared his throat. “Fair enough, Gatekeeper.” He placed the spear down horizontally in front of him, care not to make any sudden movements, at least, not yet. Glancing at Wolfeh’s face, he could tell that she was still unconscious, or looked it. The only thing that could go wrong at this point was if she suddenly sat up. Even then, it wouldn’t matter all that much. Gavin whispered a few words under his breath, a dead language of some sort. Behind the man, a curved wall of flame formed, about half a circle. With any luck, he wouldn’t notice until he had already left the girl.
