Kaen put his hand to his head as he walked around in the thick fog he had gotten himself into. One minute you're at a clearing of a plain looking up onto the stars, then you end up rummaging around lost in a thick fog. This was just his luck, it was always his luck. Taking a deep breathe and releasing a large amount of stress helped him out. He continued to walk subconsciously, oblivious to the fact that the ground turned from dry grass into hard rocky ground.
His dark blue eyes turned hazy as he continued to walk, endlessly, maybe he was finally dead. Yeah, that would be a dream come true. After taking a few more steps he found that the fog was dissipating. Kaen quickened his walk to a steady jog, and so he managed to make it out. It was pitch dark now, was night here already? No, that wasn't it, there was no light at all. He rummaged in his sack and pulled out a match. Flaring it up, it revealed the insides of a cave.
Kaen wrinkled his nose as he took in the smell of the damp moss. It wasn't just a cave, there were some sort of mineral smell. His eyes flicked around uncertainly, looking for an answer. Where was he? How did he get here? His head filled with more questions as he slowly began to make his way through. The match had started to burn down into the hand. The flames flickered dangerously on his finger tips. The smell of burning flesh lingered in the air. Kaen didn't mind, he won't die, he couldn't die.

So this was Camar. Vincent had been there once before with Aldric only a few years after he had fallen through the Rift, but he had never taken the opportunity to look around the town, or its outskirts. It was rather dull. He heard the mines were around here somewhere, but what was so interesting about a man-made pit? There were a handful of old ruins along the way, but nothing really worth taking the time to draw; plus the darkness would make it especially difficult to make anything resembling what he attempted to create.
After a few more minutes of aimless wandering, he began to notice the air growing thicker, damper. This was the sea, so it came as no surprise, but now it would be extra difficult to find his way back into town. He could always spend the night out here, he supposed. As Vincent glanced around, he came to notice an area which seemed darker than the rest, curious, he moved forward and realized that it was some sort of cave. The mines, he realized.
Shrugging off a distinctly foreboding feeling, he felt around inside, waiting for his eyes to adjust to the dark. Soft moss covered the walls; upon closer inspection, he could feel the makes made by tools centuries ago. Blocking out the soft sounds of the nighttime and the slow drip drip of the water inside the cave, he noticed there was a sort of shuffling sound some distance ahead of him. Again ignoring his instincts, he walked forward and eventually caught sight of a small glow, a match. “Hello?” he said softly so as not to startle the person, “anyone there?”

Kaen moved the burning piece of fire near the direction of the sound. Someone was there apparently and it might be the only chance to figure out the truth of where he might be. The fire still burned within his palms, the smell of the burnt flesh didn't faze him. The flames had scorched its way onto his bones. It will take time to heal, but that wasn't Kaen's priority at the moment.
Just as he took a step closer to the voice, the flames died out into the darkness of the caves. For a moment he felt truly lost, the same way he felt when the curse was first placed onto him. His heart began to beat faster then usual, perspiration crowded his head. Then he remembered the truth, its been years, he should be used to the curse. He quickly reached over and lighted a new match.
The flames were once again flickering against the dark mine. He took one step towards the voice, but stopped to wonder if it was best to approach first then talk. That would somewhat be rude, but what did he have to fear. In between his thoughts, his stomach began to rumble. Usually he was able to control his hunger, but he haven't been really concentrating.
"I'm here," Kaen said with a somewhat raspy voice. He had let himself go, forgetting about much of the curse's effects.

Vincent sniffed the air. There was something there aside from just the damp, musty smells of the cave. It was almost like… meat, but not quite. He considered lighting a match of his own to see where the other person was, but then he remembered he had forgotten to bring any. Figures. He never forgets his sketchbook but can never remember any of the other necessities. At least he still had his flask, though he hoped he wouldn’t need to use it.
He took a step forward, and another light appeared, possibly a new match. Vincent wondered just how many matches this man had to go through so far. A raspy voice, as if it belonged to man who had not spoken in ages echoed through the cavern. Vincent cleared his own throat in response, almost as if the clear the other man’s. He took another step around a corner and saw the source of the voice, a man with tired eyes and a match in his hand. Another thing about him set the man off as rather odd. Vincent had heard of people like him before, that couldn’t sense pain, but he though that the man would have at leased noticed by now. He tried to make his eye stop twitching as he spoke. “You know, friend, your fingers seem a bit burnt. Maybe you should wrap them up in something. I know infections can be nasty.” He stopped himself before he could ramble any longer.

Kaen looked at the guy closely, examining him closely. There was something about the guy that seemed off. Then how should he know? Usually people stared at him for being a weirdo. That never made him care through, he was just extremely tired.
"Infections are the least of my worries," He replied coolly. His hands felt numb as he moved a little closer to get a better luck.
"May I ask what a young lad such as you may be out here in this mine as well as where exactly this mine is located?" Kaen asked with a neutral tone that showed nothing, but how heartless he truly was. He blinked his hunger great as ever, a low rumbling came down onto his stomach.
"Do you perhaps have some food?"

The side of Vincent’s mouth twitched. He was no longer disgusted by the man’s hand—he got over such things rather quickly—but he couldn’t help but feel that something was just… off about him. It wasn’t that familiar feeling he got around many people from his native Daevir; it might have been similar, but it was more related to the sort of feeling he got when around the morally injured or terminally ill, as if he should no longer be alive.
Another thing that upset him was the tone which the man used to address him. A young lad? He looked no more than five years older than Vincent. He ignored the first part of his question and moved right on to the second. “You’re in the Camar Mines, about three miles south of the city.” He didn’t bother asking how he came to be in a place he had no memory of traveling to. For all he knew, it could be another Rift occurrence. The food question turned Vincent’s attention to the flask hidden away in his pack, which he hadn’t drunk out of for more than a week now. He was beginning to get hungry for something other than food. “Sorry, I don’t. I’m sure you’ll be able to find something in town, even if it’s just a fish head.”
Vincent paused and brushed some of his hair, now damp with sweat from the humidity, out of his face. “So if infections are the least of your worries, what exactly are you worried about?”

Kaen scowled with a start at the news of the present location. Camar? He had never heard of such a place. Well not in Daevir at least. Maybe perhaps he was in another world, like what he overheard some people talk about. What was the name of the other world again? Ronnyia? No, that wasn't it, he thought shaking his head.
He released a long deep sigh filled with at least a century's worth of stress that he built up. His eyes looked lazily at the other man. It was a sad tired sort of stare, but he looked away, contempting on the fact if he should tell this man his story. Drawing out a long deep breath, he knew somethings are better to be kept a secret. Turning back to the guy, he could tell that he was part vampire somehow. Apparently suspicious of him, he tried to change the subject.
"Would you be so kind as to lead the way out for me?" Kaen asked with a partially worried tone. His stomach stopped growling after he got some control over himself. He was still hungry of course, but thats how things went with him. Trying to speak again, his mouth seemed to turn against him. The dryness lingered no matter what he did. The flames of the match had already once again burned down to his finger tips, the seemed to reek of the smell. Kaen paid no heed to it, somehow he knew the curse still remained, although it felt one part of it has been removed.

It seemed nearly impossible for Vincent to shake the fact that this man seemed to be different in more ways than one. The more he thought about, the more he was sure he was from the Dark World. That would explain why he seemed to have no idea where he was. But that didn’t explain that other part of him that just seemed to bizarrely different. Dark was the only word he could come up with for it. There was some sort of aura coming from, or rather within, the man that reeked of the dark.
Vincent licked his lips; they were surprisingly dry for being in such a moist area. Perhaps that was because he was nervous. His body did tend to react in strange ways whenever he was. The man’s question just seemed downright odd to Vincent. They weren’t very far within the mines, and he had only walked for a few minutes before finding the man. Vincent shrugged. “Sure.” He tried not to gag as he again smelled the man’s burning flesh. He may be half vampire, but no part of him wanted to smell that.
“So, what’s your name, or what are you called, or whatever greeting you prefer.” He paused, considering if he should introduce himself with an alias. Even if he was from Daevir, it would be unlikely for him to know his family, and if he did, what did it even matter? “I’m Vincent Allandor.”

"Ah yes an Allandor, I believe I met one called Rahel, smashing young lad, such high spirits, he hired me for some hunting job of sorts." "So is he perhaps your brother, he did mention brothers or sisters he have, I believe." Kaen replied dully. He had ran into quite some troubles while doing the job Rahel assigned him. It wasn't a bad job nor the best one he took. Suddenly returning to reality, Rahel may not be his brother after all! He was never good at keeping track with time and how long it past between missions. He had to much time on his hands actually.
"My name is Kaen," he said flatly, maybe this boy wouldn't know his family history, or hopefully Rahel was his brother. If not then he had a mighty bit of explaining to do, only if he asks.

Vincent halted in mid-step. He hadn’t even told his body to; it was just a sort of unconscious reaction. A draft of cold air could have blown down into the mine, but it was more likely that the blood in his limbs stopped along with his feet. Rahel Allandor. He knew that name, just as he knew the entire Allandor family tree. From birth, he had been expected to memorize it. One mustn’t be unable to recite why one family is better than the other, especially during war. That was what his father had always said, not to him, but to his brother, his half-brother. Who was not named Rahel.
Nor was his uncle, great-uncle, or any other immediate relation. Rahel was not an uncommon name in the Dark World. He had met at least one other one during his stay there, but no one in the last century, nay, the last millennia, had been an Allandor and named Rahel, save one.
He had lived around 750 years ago and was the cousin of the king. Rahel was the one who first brought the Allandors to the status they still held to this day. The story went that he had averted an assassination attempt of his majesty by risking his life to gather information in the heart of the rebel headquarters. As a reward, the king had given him a sizable chunk of land.
“Kaen,” Vincent began. He mustn’t jump to conclusions. The man must have been mistaken. He knew that darklings, vampires, and drows were long-lived, but seven centuries was a ridiculous amount of time. Still, a hunting job, he said. He supposed it could be interpreted as sneaking into a base. Vincent had always doubted that his great-great-and more greats-grandfather had always stretched the truth on how much he had actually done. “Kaen, Rahel has been dead for nearly 700 years.” He laughed nervously, turning to the stranger. “How-how is that even possible? Did you look at the family records? No, why would you?” He was rambling, saying far too much, but he continued anyway. “You traveled via a Rift to get here, so you would have no idea about me. No, you could have planted yourself here. A Darth’iar, aren’t you?” Vincent’s had twitched a few times before it reached down and plucked his rapier out of its scabbard. He swung it around and placed the point at Kaen’s neck. “Who are you?”

Kaen scowled, Rahel has been dead for almost 700 years? He was sure at the very most that it had been 300 years. He gave himself more credit then he deserved for keeping track of time. So this boy was a descendant of Rahel. He did seem to only have a bit of his characteristics. Sure he was a lot more annoying in ways and rude at the same time. At the mention of Darth'iar, he could feel a part of his body boiling. There were a few standards he had, but taking advantage of others for his needs were beyond him. Well taking lame excuses to kill was beyond him.
"I am simply plain cursed human that is actually quite confused at this moment," he said, not even care if there was a blade next his neck. He didn't struggle, scream, or showed any signs of interest, mainly because he wasn't really interested at the moment.
"I am not part of the Darth'iar, through I have heard of them making excuses to kill from a few people," he continued to say with a tint of anger. It wasn't like him to trust people by their word, but somehow he believed they were talking about the truth. Many people have lied to him, but maybe it was the time when he witnessed that so called priest kill an innocent young woman. He did nothing of course, thinking it was none of his business.
Then as that thought came by, he did make one guy seem really mad and embarrassed that was a priest from the organization. He acted so lowly that it made him feel real sorry for actually wasting his time with that pitiful man. He warned that he had some sort of power to get him killed.
Returning back to the event at hand, with a quick movement of his hand, he unsheathed his own sword. Kaen quickly gain hold of the boy's rapier and with a few stun moves, made sure Vincent's hand became numb from the attacks.
"You have much to learn boy," at that moment however he realized that he had been a bit careless and got sliced on the throat. He had worse wounds and didn't even bother to check on it. He just looked over to Vincent and waited for what he planned to do next. Whatever it was, it can't possibly be something that killed him.

Vincent’s blade clattered to the cavern floor. He might have been able to fight back better if he hadn’t been so shocked At least this man didn’t seem interested in killing him. He swallowed what saliva he had left in his mouth. So Kaen was cursed. By what and why was something he didn’t bother explaining, but at least he now knew why he was so long-lived. But why was he cursed to live for possibly thousands of years? Vincent made a mental note to find out just how old he was.
So he wasn’t part of the Darth’iar either. He couldn’t help but wonder how this was his first time in the Light World if he had lived for that many years, but upon further thought, it really wasn’t that farfetched. He could be a good ally to have. Vincent would need to contact Cain or Aldric if he managed to stay with Kaen.
Vincent massaged his wrist, trying to make to blood flow return, and looked at Kaen. “I’m sorry, I suppose I reacted a bit too soon.” He flinched at the deep cut on his neck. Even if this made was able to survive horrible wounds, he found it incredible that he was barely even weakened by something that would kill most. “This curse that you spoke of, does it make you some sort of immortal? If you knew my ancestor and if you could survive mortal wounds, then I can’t even fathom another way you could live this long.” He paled and looked away. That wound was getting to him. He finally took the flask out of his bag and took a drink. He shuddered as the thick metallic liquid flowed down his throat.

Kaen raised an eyebrow as he turned away. He could tell Vincent believed him, but did he want to. Taking out an old rag he wiped away the blood that lingered on from the cut. Was Vincent used to seeing blood, if not then he would be considered pretty lucky in his book. After a few minutes the blood seemed to have clotted. It took a longer time then usual, maybe it was because the dark god's influence was less stronger here. Tucking away the rag back into one of his pocket, he cleared his throat hoping to get Vincent's attention. People in this world was a but more cautious then Daevir, well at least Vincent was.
"Yes I am immortal, its a terrible curse indeed, but let me explain it once were out of this depressing mine," Kaen replied as he leaned over to pick up the rapier. He put his own sword back into his sheath and extended his arm for Vincent to take his own sword back.
"I wish I was dead all the time, but nothing seem to work," Kaen shrugged as the words slipped out.

As Vincent finished his drink, he turned away and licked his lips. He still couldn’t decide if he enjoyed the flavor of blood or not, and he really didn’t want to think about it. After silently taking his sword back, he trekked to the beginning of the mine as he considered Kaen’s statements. He could now tell why the horrible burns didn’t bother him and why the man just calmly brushed away the blood of a near fatal wound. He didn’t care. He didn’t care about the pain. He didn’t care about the absence of it. He barely cared about being lost in a foreign world. He just had no will to live. Vincent had seen a few men before who had lost everything but their lives, and in their grief they took that as well. That was Kaen, but he had hundred, maybe thousands of years worth of grief. And there was no relief.
Vincent actually felt sympathetic to the man, and his voice was numb to reply.
At last, at what seemed almost twice as long as when he went into the tunnel, he found the end. But it wasn’t there.
He didn’t have a bad sense of direction. The rigors of the Fellowship almost forced its members to be able to survive without any niceties such as a compass, and Vincent could only think of one person, a newer recruit, who had a horrible sense. That was why he was so puzzled as to where the exit had gone. He tentatively placed his hand on the wall that had been a door and pushed. It was completely solid. After almost an afterthought at keeping his hand there, he noticed a familiar pulse flowing through the stone. Magic.
“Damn it!” he cried, wanting to slam his head on the wall. “It moved. The mine moved.” He shivered and clutched the wall. “We’re trapped.”

The silence felt awkward in a way, but he was used to keeping quiet. Opening his mouth to say another comment, but he quickly closed it, deciding not to make things worse then they already are. Step after step, the mine seemed all the same, a constant maze of passages. Perhaps it is a maze, but his hopes were up that it was not. Mazes are so troublesome, often stalling him on a mission he was hired.
The sound of Vincent's voice, once again snapped him out of his thoughts. Did he say magic? Ah great, it was indeed another maze and a shifting one at that. He spent two decades or more, he couldn't tell with his perspective of time. No matter, it took him a long time to get out of it in the end. When he did make it out, his client was already dead, and he did everything for nothing.
"The last time I was in a shifting like maze, I believe it took a few decades, and with my tracking of time, it was probably more," He said to no one particular. What was Vincent planning to do, if he was part vampire then he could be able to spare a few decades, but he also needed food. Oh there was another problem here, the lighting. There didn't seem to be a source of light. In time they would probably end up blind, or at least Vincent would.
"So what do you plan to do?" "For your sake, you'll need to make out of here within a certain time or you might go blind, close to blind at least, in this darkness," Kaen said with a little bit of concern in his voice. Apparently there was still a bit of sympathy in him, no matter how the rest of him was emotionless.
