It was evening time in Camar, the stars twinkled in the distant skies and the harbor that was usually packed with ships with fish was barren, due to the twilight hour. The roads were dimly lit by the lanturns that hung low enough to be touched by small children. For the most part, the streets lay deserted, no one walked these roads at night, they all stayed hidden in their homes, sleeping their troubles away...Well most of them anyways.
A man with long black hair was making his way through a normally busy street that lay in Camar. He looked like a beggar with his lack of shoes and his dirty silken slacks, walking quietly down the road without any referance to where he was headed. His eerie yellow eyes seemed to glow under the fire's light as he strolled on through, making no note to the barren atmosphere. He was used to walking alone, and he wasn't expecting to be bothered at a time like this...when only the predators are awake..
The man stopped infront of a large glass window, peering in to see fish hanging from the ceiling. The scent of the carcasses drifted from the vent above, allowing the man to inhale the delicious fragrance. A white hand pressed against the window, longing to snatch a fish for himself...and eat it raw. The man licked his lips with his serpentine tongue as he watched the fish swing loosely, as if they too wanted to be freed from the shop as well. The man was too engulfed on watching his could-be dinner to notice another passerby that made their way down the same street he had stopped on.

“AHHHH!!” Zerene screamed at the top of her lungs, a bunch of thugs were following her. She seems to always attract misfortune with her. The men carried rope and weapons made to catch things. This all started when she went to simply ask for direction, they just suddenly went after her. She even hid all aspects of her being a vampire from them. Why was her luck so bad!?!? Maybe that man looking in the store could help, she thought. She ran and tackled him at waist swinging her behind him.
“Help me, PLEASE!!”

Rorik blinked as the momentum from the sudden impact nearly made him fall over. His hand caught the handle to the shop, saving him from many cuts that would come if he landed on the gravel sidewalk. He bit down on his teeth so he wouldn't hiss, giving himself away, but he did take in a small girl he clung to him by his waist. Blinking twice while he pulled himself up to where he could balance again on his own, he looked at her curiously, not seeming to notice her cry for help, or the men who were rapidly approaching. "Can I help you?" His voice was quiet, reptillian almost.

“Yes,” Zerene rasped as he stared at the approaching group of men with scary weapons. Her body was shivering all over and she herself was already cold thanks to her frightful encounter. After a few seconds of thinking, she realized that the guy she asked for help could be working with those awful people! It was to late for her to take back her plea and she just hoped he could help.
The guy that seemed to be in charge walked up to them with a sinister smile over his face. Zerene didn’t like it at all, but he didn’t turn to look at her first. He stared at the guy she asked for help and spat at his face.
“Hand over the girl, loser, before we really have to kill you.” He said. Then turning back to his allies he began to laugh. The others got ready their weapons and all Zerene could do was watch.

He looked up from the girl and immediately glared at the man who had just taunted him. A feral snarl ripped from the back of his throat as his golden eyes became ablaze. His tongue flicked in a quick manor, immediately concealing itself behind his thin lips. His hand grabbed the girl's shoulder, and pushed her behind him, closing the distance between he and the other men. This time, an eeriee snicker came from his mouth as he noticed how short these men were. He easily towered over all of them, and he could tell that ehy wouldn't stand a chance...as long as the moon shone overhead, he had the advantage. "Excuse me sir? Would you mind running that by me again? By the way, my name is Rorik, and I really discourage the use of weapons in friendly conversation, wouldn't you agree?"

Wait, what’s going here? She ended up asking a dragon for help!?! Zerene just realized that she might just die if she was to anger the man to much, but it wasn’t her fault everything was going the wrong way! At least the night was good and peaceful. Those man didn’t seem so confident now that they had to face a giant.
“Wel..l we’llll givvvee yyouu aa deal!” the leader stammered from his fear. “Give us the girl and you can have half of what we get from her, a girl like her sells high in the slave market!” he said turning to her. Zerene couldn’t believe her ears! They were just like those no good bandits that abducted her and separated her from the life she treasured. It made her feel awful and before she knew it, she began to cry a lot.

Rorik sighed as he heard the whimpers that came from behind him. He didn't believe in slavery, lucky for the girl. He pulled strands of hair from his face and tucked them behind his ear. He shook his head and took another step forward, his hunger tugging at his muscles. "I believe you misunderstood what I meant when I said friendly conversation. This girl you are trying to sell into slavery clearly does not want to go down that path. Now, if you favor your life, you would continue your midnight stroll without interrupting hers. Do I make myself clear?" He was watching the big one behind the leader, he seemed reluctant to leave without a fight, hopefully he wouldn't have to go into combat tonight. He wasn't up for fighting on an empty stomach. Crossing his arms, he turned around to look at Zerene, his liquid gold eyes calm and relaxed. "No need to worry ms. You do not need to cry here."

The leader turned to the other s in the group and signaled them to back down, or at least that was what it seems. As they walked back from the direction they came from, Zerene began to wipe her own face. She hated people who believed others were just tools or play things. It caused so much suffering and made her believe she was indeed going crazy. The thugs leaving made her a little happier, but it didn’t completely comfort her. She didn’t know where was and still is desperate to find her way home.
In the distance she could hear the leader’s angry voice hollering, “We’ll get that girl one way or another!” The statement made her shiver, but she was happy to be safe at the moment. She turned to the man that saved him and bowed. She was lucky to find such a kind man and thought it to be best to find a way to thank him. As she remembered, maybe she could treat him to some food.
“Thank you for saving me, is there some way I could repay you, I insist.” Zerene said politely.

Rorik watched with satisfaction as the group headed south, away from the pair. His shoulders slumped and he turned himself so he was face to face with the peculier girl who the thugs were after. She didn't look human somehow...Rorik tilted his face as his grin left, beginning to analyze her image. The girl was paler than the moon, and had extremely green eyes. Even her voice sounded foreign. Blinking, he replied. "No need, I'm just looking for a meal, that is until you came along. I'm puzzled though. You look young, why are you out so late at night?"

It took awhile for Zerene to process the question the man was asking, before realizing that in this world, kids that look like her was supposed to be asleep at home right now. She began to position herself a little and looked worriedly around the area for some sort of reason not answer. She didn’t like to tell strangers about her past, but sometimes it is best to spill things out.
“I don’t really have a home, but I am staying at an inn.” “I’m really desperate to find my way home, but asked the wrong people for help. I’ll treat you to a meal at the inn if you like.”
